Scroll for Sunnier Skies: Modern Style.

Though we do love the Pacific NW, most agree – come January, locals need a respite from all that’s damp and dark – because a little sun is just what the doctor ordered. We’ve gathered a few fab modern gems that make us want to hop the next plane . . . or at least imagine doing just that from underneath our cozy cashmere throw. C’mon, it’s okay to dream a little.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ: https://dwellarizona.com

Designed by renowned architect Eddie Jones, this gorgeous desert home boasts world class architecture and modern design. Nestled on a 1.69-acre view home site in the award winning luxurious community of Estancia, its visionary design and unparalleled mountain views create an unmatched state of luxury living that includes an astronomical observatory with a motorized retractable roof for star-gazing. Just imagine selecting the perfect wine from your 862 bottle capacity wine cellar while entertaining guests around the hot tub and heated pool under those watercolor perfect skies.

The serene tropical estate of Aquadisia has been meticulously renovated, paying tribute to the original Guy Peterson structure and majestic site. This modern muse is perfectly positioned on just over 3-acres with 542 feet of private Gulf of Mexico frontage. Reflecting pool, private grove of 48 Royal palms and a labyrinth surrounded by exotic Buddha Belly bamboo – sounds pretty good to us! With these panoramic gulf views, including a covered seaside pavilion perfect for meditation with breathtaking sunsets over Siesta Key, grey skies and rain seem continents away.

Catch a few late afternoon rays from the roof terrace of this ultra-chic gated contemporary urban oasis. Enter through the stainless steel bank entrance door to a sophisticated open floor plan with espresso oak & marble floors + Hansgrohe & Duravit designer bathrooms. Or perhaps a dip in the 40 ft Heated Salt Water Pool sounds more like it? Any which way you go, you are sure to find the sunshine here.

Cozy in to your very own hidden oceanfront jewel designed by renown mid-century architect George J. Wimberly (of the Sheraton Waikiki and Coco Palms Resort, Kauai). The unique A-frame design is showcased with light-filled and flowing indoor/outdoor spaces designed that capture expansive ocean views. Artistic use of lava rock and local hardwood flooring. Peace & serenity abound in this Hawaiian haven with 55 feet of ocean frontage and tropical landscaping. Picture yourself swan-diving into the 40ft tiled pool (with famous Halekulani-inspired twin dolphin/orchid design). Wait, did someone say double swan dive?

Palm Springs

Yes, we’re aware, this one’s not for sale. That can’t stop us from wishing. The iconic John Lautner-designed Elrod House is the supreme modernist party pad, perched high into the hills of the Southridge neighborhood of Palm Springs and centered around a circular living room that is 60 feet in diameter and topped by a conical domed ceiling with nine concrete petals alternated between wedge-shaped glass windows. Commissioned by noted interior designer Arthur Elrod, Lautner decided to excavate down eight feet in order to expose the bedrock, which was incorporated into the design of the property. It was featured in the 1971 James Bond film, “Diamonds Are Forever.”

If these bright and inspiring sun escapes have you all warmed up, toss aside that throw, pull back on the old rain boots, and like a true Pacific Northwesterner, venture back out into the slightly more grey toned reality of ours.

As those raindrops hit your nose, remember – come July, there’s almost nowhere on earth more beautiful than right here. . . . and the team at 360 Modern always has a plethora of local modern beauties for you to drool over, no matter the time of year. We invite you to come back anytime to dream a little more.
