09 27 docomomo Seattle Tour 2016 – Cushman and Van Horne Residences POSTED BY Drew Meyers COMMENTS Docomomo US’ puts on an annual national event that works to raise the awareness of and appreciation for buildings, interiors and landscapes designed in the United States during the mid-20th century. Tour Day 2016. The event is coming up soon — October 8th — and Seattle is one of the participating cities. The Seattle tour is in Portage Bay, and features two mid-century modern residences. The Van Horne house (1114 E Shelby St) was completed in 1953 and designed by architects John and Audrey Van Horne. Next door is the Cushman residence (1108 E Shelby St), original home of architect Edward Cushman (also built in 1953). On-street parking available on E Shelby St, Fuhrman Ave E, or Boyer Ave E. Cost | $5 (cash, check or charge). All tour fees go toward future programs.
