With the “city chicken” movement taking root in many areas, especially Seattle, it’s only fitting to shine the spotlight on the cool coops that our feathered friends call home. Coops are as varied as their hens, ranging from modest to elaborate, blandly designed to strikingly contemporary. Seattle Tilth is even organizing a chicken coop and urban farm tour on July 13 to highlight the various roost stylings around town. To get in the spirit, we pecked around and picked some of our favorite modern chicken coops. The Co-Op makes use of sustainable solutions, such as passive cooling and heating methods, as well as a solar-powered fan.Price tag: $3,500 SALTBOX DESIGNS This local chicken coop manufacturer is based out of Ballard and creates modern and classic coops in five different styles.
